Writing Love Stories with a Dash of Horror by Jane Godman - Guest Post

Today, Jane Godman, author of spooky-romances such as Legacy of Darkness (which I LOVE), is here to tell us a little about the new books we can expect to see from her this year, as well as what's happening with those wicked Jagos!

Thanks, Jane!

Writing Love Stories with a Dash of Horror by Jane Godman

About a year ago, I wrote a guest post for the Love Reading Romance blog entitled ‘Creepily Ever After’ about my love of gothic romance. I’m delighted to be back again to give an update on my writing projects. I may still talk about gothic romance (because I can never resist the opportunity to do that!).

Crumbling manor houses, gloomy corridors, ghostly apparitions and eerie secrets…I just can’t resist them. Which is why I was so delighted when my Jago Legacy series of historical gothic romances were published in 2014 by Harlequin in their Shivers series.

Twelve months on and so many new things have happened in my writing career, it’s hard to know where to begin. I am now writing books in a number of different genres, which I love because it keeps my interest levels at the highest pitch.

I have written a very dark erotic romantic suspense series for Secret Cravings Publishing entitled The Cunning Prophet Series. The first book, One for Sorrow, will be published on March 18th and is available now to pre-order. Of course, it’s a Jane Godman title so, while it isn’t gothic, there is no escaping the supernatural elements within the story.

In June this year, A Kiss for a Highlander, the first book in my new historical romance series will be published by Samhain. Set in the 18th century, the series is called The Georgian Rebel Series and it features ‘powder, patch, plaid and passion’. These are the only books I’ve written that do not feature any paranormal elements. They are still very steamy, however!

I’m also very excited about my current project. I’m working on a three book series for Harlequin in their Nocturne (paranormal) line. These are contemporary romances based loosely around my love of Celtic legend.

Oh, and let’s not forget the horror novella I have coming out later in the year!

So, back to the gothic romances…you knew I was going to say that, didn’t you?

Sadly, Harlequin have now closed their Shivers line to further submissions. Because I want to continue the Jago Legacy series--I can’t just let those mad, bad Jagos die out!--I have begun the process of self-publishing these titles.

I’ve included some information about the series below.

Legacy of Darkness
The Jago Legacy Series, Book One (available now)

It is 1837 and the young Queen Victoria has just ascended the English throne.

Orphaned and penniless after her father’s death in India, Lucy Alleyne is forced to accept a post as companion to an elderly lady until a distant relative spirits her away to Castle Athal on the Cornish coast. But Lucy’s initial gratitude at Lady Demelza Jago’s benevolence soon gives way to unease.

The ancient Cornish castle, known locally as Tenebris, is a dark monument to the family’s history and secrets. Within its embrace Lucy is drawn into friendship with Tynan Jago. The young Earl of Athal is handsome and poetic yet tortured, like his father before him. Tynan is utterly different from his uncle, Uther, whose seductive, leonine power radiates from his every word and gesture.

Between them the two Jago men have innocent Lucy enthralled—mind, body and soul. If she remains within the bloodstained castle walls, with their history of ill-starred passion and madness, a mere broken heart will seem a blessing.

Echoes in the Darkness
The Jago Legacy Series, Book Two
(available March 20th 2015)

In the artistic circles of 1860s Paris she is known as the Divine Dita, Montmartre’s most sought-after nude model. But now she’s not so much striking a pose as playing a role, as fiancĂ©e to the next Earl of Athal. The charade is a favor to Dita’s best friend, Eddie Jago, a dissolute painter, and the aforementioned heir. As deceptions go, it is innocent compared with what is to come.

On the grim Cornish coast, from the ashes of a ruined castle rises the Jagos’ sumptuous new manor house. The fresh-hewn stone, however, cannot absorb the blood of centuries or quiet the echoes of past crimes. Dita struggles to decipher the Jago family. There is Tynan, the kindly Earl, Lucia, his capable wife, handsome, volatile Eddie and sweet, sheltered sister Eleanor. Then there is Cad, the handsome second son whose reputation is impeccable in business, but scandalous in everything else.

Drawn by friendship, ensnared by lust, Dita uncovers a sordid tangle of murder, desire and madness. It will lay her bare as no portraitist has done before.

Darkness Unchained
The Jago Legacy Series, Book Three (available April 25th 2015)

1922, Cornwall, England

Could the maddest, baddest, sexiest Jago of them all really be back?

Growing up in the shadows of the Drakensberg mountains, ever since she can remember, Annie van der Merwe has envisioned a golden eyed man she calls Uther. Now, half way across the world, in a beautiful cliff top mansion known as Tenebris, Annie comes face to face with the embodiment of her visions.

Torn body and soul between mesmerising nobleman Uther Jago and his brooding brother Nicca, headstrong Annie must face the awful legacy of the Jagos. Lust, betrayal and a darkness older than time await her if she remains within the encircling walls of Tenebris.

Only in sultry South Africa can Annie hope to conquer the darkness borne in blood and bone that threatens to destroy them all. But once the Jago darkness has been unleashed, can it ever be vanquished?

About the Author - Jane Godman:

I am an avid reader, reading anything from Jane Austen to Stephen King and everything in between. I have written stories ever since I could hold a pencil and I still have a copy of the medieval romance I wrote, longhand and in felt tip pen, when I was 14.

I live in England and love to travel to European cities which are steeped in history and romance. Venice, Dubrovnik and Vienna are among my favourites. I am a teacher, married to a lovely man and mum to two grown up children.

I write in a variety of genre including historical romance, paranormal romance and erotic romantic suspense. I also enjoy the occasional foray into horror and thriller writing.
