The Review:
Note: Something Reckless is Book 1 in the Reckless and Real series, but I think you really probably need to read the prequel, Something Wild, before diving into this one. Something Wild is currently available for FREE, but it's also included at the start of Something Reckless. The thing is... I might accidentally include a few spoilers for Something Wild here (though I'll try not to)... soooo... if you haven't already read it, read ahead at your own risk! In Something Wild we learned the extent of Liz and Sam's desire for each other, their history and heat, now it's two years later, they no longer speak to each other, but their desire's still there. Something Reckless begins where Something Wild left off in the epilogue, Liz dating other men and Sam unable to forgive her. Liz's dating life isn't that simple, though, she's been checking out a new internet dating site ("Something Real") and flirting with a man she keeps hoping is really Sam.
We get to know a lot more about Liz, not only her sexual and personal desires, but her career ambitions, which are much more than a ditzy perky blonde. Even so, it's her flaws and imperfections, her inability to really get anything quite right, that make Liz my favorite Lexi Ryan heroine to date.
We get to know Sam better. Sexy, dirty Sam. Oh, he's so naughty and I love it. We also learn more about his insecurities, not only his family life, but also why he's so unsure when it comes to his feelings for Liz. He's so bad and just a little broken. You gotta love him.
What I love most about Lexi Ryan's romances is that they are so suspenseful, even if they aren't precisely suspense. There are a few little mysteries in this one to keep you guessing. We also have less flashbacks, as compared to say Hanna's memory flashes in the Here and Now Series, as well as the remembrances of past misdeeds in Something Wild, which means that the edge of the seat reading is even more intense than I was expecting. This is not a book that you can put down midway through!
I thought the end was quite predictable, but it's the way that Liz and Sam deal with their relationship around the developing issues that makes this a gripping read. How they can possibly resolve these issues in Book 2 is the resounding question at the end of Something Reckless. I don't know but I want to find out!
Of course, it's not just the suspense of the mysteries that make this such an addictive read. It's also the hot hot hot sex. All Sam and Liz's wanting from so many years of unfulfilled desire heats up to boiling point!
Something Reckless is a super hot, suspenseful contemporary romance. It's not a standalone, though, and I'm dying for Book 2!
