From the Blurb:

Armed with a degree from Oxford that she doesn't have a clue what to do with, Ciara Bree convinces her two best friends, Elle and Gem to spend their first summer of freedom backpacking across the globe. Now it's time to shop, sunbathe, think about boys for a change, and party hard...

First stop: LA!

The girls hit Tinseltown for a few days of shopping, star spotting, and even a movie premiere!

But their plan to sneak into an exclusive celeb party in West Hollywood backfires. Elle's gorgeous older cousin, Zack, is called to the rescue and despite knowing she should stay away, Ciara just can't seem to resist him.

The ideal summer treat for those relaxing days soaking up the sun!

The Review:

Ciara has just finished uni, but before she faces the real world, she's traveling the wider world with her friends Elle and Gem. The three have plans to shop and party, but when Elle's sexy cousin Zack arrives on the scene, Ciara can think of other ways she'd like to spend her time.

Being the first short story in a serial, I wasn't sure how I'd go reading Trouble in Tinseltown. I sat down to read it with very little time to spare and I knew that if it ended on some dire cliffhanger I was probably going to have regrets. In some ways it does feel a little like the first chapter of a novel, but this short little romp is still satisfying  Rather than having some heart wrenching cliffhanger, it is a fairly well contained fling, with just enough of a tease at the end to lead into the rest of the series.

Aimee Duffy manages to fit a lot into this short piece, and we get to know quite a bit about Ciara, her relationship to her friends, her baggage over money and her fears for the future. Her friends are fun, if a little outrageous. While we don't get to know a whole lot about her love interest, Zack (other than that he's good in the sack), there's no denying the chemistry between him and Ciara.

Simply because of the way I binge read, I'd probably prefer the series was amalgamated into one novel, but I imagine this short story serial structure will work well for people who read in short bursts, for example, when traveling! (if not around the world, then to work)

I have to also add how much I love the cover art of this series (my favorite is the cover for Flirting in Florence), but you can find the complete series with all the gorgeous covers laid out in this post at Harper Impulse. I know we're not supposed to judge a book by its cover, but having read Trouble in Tinseltown, I'd have to say the cover is a pretty good indication of what you're going to get: A sexy, fun read about girls traveling the globe.

Trouble in Tinseltown by Aimee Duffy is the first in the Summer Flings series, published by Harper Impulse on August 7 2014.
