The Review:
When Paisley accompanies her grandmother to Scotland, she doesn’t think she’ll have anything to worry about other than her Gran’s penchant for kilts (or at least what’s hidden beneath). So she’s in for a shock when she realizes she can hear the thoughts of the rugged highland laird who greets her. Paisley soon discovers that nothing is quite as it seems at Matheson Lodge. Ghosts roam the halls and the men of the clan resemble bears in more than size, but Paisley has her own secret.
Paisley is a strong willed heroine, made all the more so by her history with a man who sought to control her. She’s beautiful, but a little on the geeky side (constantly pushing up her glasses and even singing aloud to Rod Stewart when she thinks no one is listening), which I adored. Paisley is both uncertain and independently determined. This, plus her geeky side makes Paisley relatable, but she’s also an unusual heroine, and not just because of her paranormal abilities, which were definitely unique for this sort of novel.
In many ways, Creighton is the typical highland hero: gorgeous, passionate, protective, and always convinced he should have the first and last say. His family and sleuth are the most important things in his life, and protecting them is his top priority. But he also knows the importance of following his heart and proving himself to the one he loves. Unfortunately for Creighton, proving his devotion without letting his more intensely protective animal side take over is a struggle.
As you can imagine, their equally independent and stubborn attitudes often lead Paisley and Creighton into heated arguments, adding to the fiery passion of their romance. Their relationship is the sheer definition of chemistry, and the steamy scenes are simply delectable.
The secondary characters are also a delight, especially Paisley’s Gran, who is an absolute hoot and had me hysterically laughing out loud on more than one occasion. The other members of Creighton’s clan also play an important role, and I’m excited to read more of these shifters in the Highlander’s Beloved trilogy. I can’t wait to read more in this world!
A Highlander’s Obsession is a passionately sexy paranormal romance. It is a full length novel, but A Highlander’s Obsession is one of those stories you’ll want to read in a single sitting. It is perfectly paced and distractingly addictive. Creighton and Paisley share a passion that sizzles off the page, while the narrative is surprisingly witty. One minute Vonnie Davis’ writing had me shrieking with laughter, the next I was furiously fanning my face as Creighton and Paisley heated up the pages with their romance.
I recommend this novel to anyone who enjoys paranormal romance and downright delicious highland lairds.
